2021 Topps Update blaster recap

I finally got my hands on some 2021 Topps Update and while it may not be a big deal, I feel like retail offerings are still trickier to find in-person - one of the stops tagging along with my mother running errands was at a Barnes and Noble book store where I've heard of accounts where they've sold cards in the past year [i.e. 2021 Bowman Mega Boxes].

On the other hand I don't know if each store just put the cards out in the shelves and I've never seen them [not that I go to bookstores much at all in the here and now] - what happened however, was when I was waiting in line to make a purchase, I saw someone approach the counter and ask the sales associate for trading cards.

I couldn't believe my eyes when the person dug out some blasters for the person look at - when I finally had a chance, I followed suit to ask for some cards myself and ended up with this blaster, along with two $10 hanger boxes.

It's kind of a minor miracle but I guess it happens where I get an opportunity to find cards when I'm not really expecting to - at my local Target, I did find some loose hanger boxes, so I grabbed a couple more in the wild.

2021 Topps - eBay blaster nearly a disaster

For the times I've searched around the Targets I can get to and have seen bupkis, maybe $27 shipped wasn’t necessarily a bad price to pay for something delivered from eBay - considering a box is about $20 and maybe the premium I’m paying for in this instance merely covers the cost to ship the item.

On an afternoon where I actually, finally found some 2021 Topps on the shelves at my local Target and was able to buy some baseball cards - I checked the mail after I got home, it looks like my eBay blaster came in, so maybe things 'evened out' a little where I had some new cards to play with.

Unfortunately,  I saw the small box the blaster was shipped in was crushed along with the actual blaster box itself - I had second thoughts fast, but because I had suffered from a bit of FOMO the past 3 weeks, I took my chances and opened the blaster up.

Fortunately it doesn’t seem like any of the cards got damaged - this was a basic box with no bonus inserts / parallels, only a coupon ‘book’ for future purchases throughout the rest of the year.

Topps 70th Anniversary patch card pack

#70LP-JB Johnny Bench - there are never outright duds on the checklist and the cards usually look nice, though super thick and has been some variation of these manufactured cards for the past decade or so.

Topps Project 2020 Keith Shore Ken Griffey Jr. #88

I got this card in the mail from Topps and despite its notoriety, it's going into my micro-mini Ken Griffey Jr. PC - Shore's cards were probably the oddest looking Project 2020 cards early on, like he purposely dumbed his cards down to appeal to third graders, but market conditions have made his cards [Don Mattingly and Mark McGwire for example] valuable just the same.

After the boom, now everyone was going to pounce on any future Shore release and the hype was huge as Junior happened to be the next Shore card - because of FOMO I bought one just the same, but I knew there was going to be 70,000 of these cards made instead of the sub 10,000 numbers his early cards did.

Just to show I’m either not looney or maybe just not smart enough at the time, I didn’t get the other card - a Joshua Vides Nolan Ryan because while any of these Project 2020 cards might have been cash money cards, I’m only focused on the Mike Trouts [regardless of print run or future value] and a card or two that catch my eye.

After the fact, I was only off about 20,000 as there were 99,177 Shore Griffey Jr. [and 64,629 Vides Ryan] cards - the lure of the flip value brought in chumps who keyed in on the Griffey Jr., believing very new Project 2020 card was going to be a quick flip for at least $500 each.

After the Shore Griffey Jr. release, the values crashed and no one is going to be bragging about making a mint off any one particular card - I lost about $13 on the Griffey Jr. since I paid the full price [$21.44 including tax] on Topps.com for a single card.

Maybe the Vides Ryan, paired with the Griffey Jr. wasn't a serious consideration for me but I can pick one up for $10 as well.
