Featured autograph - Howie Kendrick

I wasn't planning on making the trip to BFE for a Kendrick autograph signing last Thursday, but there was a signing near Angel Stadium this past Saturday that was a more reasonable distance - I don't bother with most Angels appearances, but made a sacrifice for Kendrick, since he signs sporadically at the stadium these days.

He was polite and cordial otherwise and I got a baseball and a 2012 Topps Allen and Ginter card signed - he thanked me after I told him he was having a great season and how he should make the All-Star team.

There was some wait, but that's a given at these player appearances - maybe this ended up a 'low key' deal, but at least there didn't seem the mess of 'pros' who brought friends, family and long lost relatives to pounce on an opportunity.

Featured autograph - Chris Sale

I was able to get the young pitching ace when the Chicago White Sox played the Angels a couple of weeks ago - he was pretty accomodating signing after the gam, though it seemed like the regular autographers were probably somewhere else the afternoon I got him.

I can't really say much more about a guy who carved up the Angels this season - Sale struck out 19 and walked three in 16 2/3 innings in two starts against the Halos, allowing only 4 hits and a grand total of 0 runs.

2012 Topps Allen and Ginter's complete set

After trying to put together a partial set through quarter boxes in 2012 - I broke down to pick up a full set with short prints [1-350] for about the price of two blaster boxes.

Even though I'm now stuck with a bunch of doubles - having the full base set in-hand gives me peace of mind as far as cards to try and get inked up.

Realistically, I might get something like 100/350 cards signed in the first couple of years - then the progress dwindles; for some players I've seemingly had an entire run of Ginter [2006-2012] cards without getting a lone one signed and I haven't really even paid attention much to the 'other' subjects.

I guess my rule of thumb for getting autograph sets isn't to aim for completion but to get as many of the cards signed - so I have one main set to focus on instead of random cards, and then have a 'snapshot' of signed cards so I have some feeling of accomplishment.

At times I wish I could take a set of unsigned cards and put them in a binder for display purposes - however, these cards are going through my 'chop shop' where I separate the revelant cards [active baseball subjects] from the cards I don't particularly need or can't use during a particular MLB season [non-sport or other sport subjects, any retired baseball players who are deceased or any retired living baseball players charge at least $50 or more to sign].

Play at the Plate trade received

I received 2012 Topps Allen and Ginter's gold mini parallels of Erick Aybar and C.J. Wilson from Play at the Plate - in exchange for the two Texas Rangers ones I pulled out of a pack break.

Reading about the trade from his point of view, it sounds like he's made me out as a female - though I'm appreciative a trade was able to get done, just to avoid any possible confusion, I'd like to clarify that I'm actually a dude.

Featured autograph - Paul Goldschmidt

I picked this 2012 Topps Allen and Ginter's autograph card of Paul Goldschmidt as an impulsive purchase from a card shop for $10 - he is having a good sophomore season and I've never gotten his autograph in-person.

2012 Topps Allen and Ginter's jumbo pack recap

2012 Topps Allen and Ginter's Jumbo Pack [$5.19 each at a Target] - I could probably pick up a hand collated set on Ebay, but I haven't gone into the site in a while since I don't use Paypal.

I might have to use primitive and more expensive ways of gathering 2012 Allen and Ginter's base cards for my in-person autograph endeavors - which is through loose pack purchases and maybe digging around quarter boxes.
