A look back into a 2021 collecting goal

With all my card interests, it can be easy to spend a couple of weeks focused on one thing, then on a whim, just drop what I'm working on - to dwell on something else in the meantime, while the previous thing is put on hold.

Like everyone else it seems, I have a yearly set of collecting goals, but maybe it gets too long winded to fully break down on a blog - I feel like a goof when I don't catch up to any of them and so maybe it is easier to keep them offline.

The least I could really do is fish out one or maybe a couple things to recap from the last calendar year - maybe the more intricate the goals I've set, the harder it is to keep track of and figure out whether it fits into one of the following classifications.

Passing grade - an achievement.
I’ll take the results - did not meet a numerical goal, but came close to the spirit of achievement.
No grade - something incomplete, unfinished but not quite a failure.
Work in progress - something to be followed up on but perhaps didn’t quite focus hard enough on.
Fail  / rejigger / L - a combination of one or all of the three means I missed my mark otherwise and I may have think about what may change as far as a goal.

A pro tip for myself would really try to keep things simplified - where even if I've listed goals that aren't as ambitious, they are realistic and I'm not wondering why I even put them out.

As it goes, one of the things that I jot down is to refine my Angels collection - I don't know if I'll ever be a traditional team collector, where I'm dutifully collecting every single card, but if nothing else, I want to build on the idea that there is a focus on a home team as far as what I collect.

There maybe different 'bullet points' as far as my regional focus goes - one of my goals was seeing if I could get the last 20-30 years of Angels Opening Day teams in plastic pages to display in a binder.

I gave myself a passing grade where I actually I put 40 years [1981-2021] worth of cards in pages where I worked on this regional loose card project for a little bit - while I'm still missing stragglers, I felt like I could go ahead with displaying what I had so far, especially with a lure of seeing what the project looks like when completed.

Through 2022, this specific goal stays intact, where I hunt down cards I may still need for the pages I've made - as well as seeing where I can get a good number of cards to justify making more pages for another run of years [1980 and before].

A look into my collecting goals for 2022

I have a yearly set of collecting goals, but maybe it gets too long winded to fully break down on a blog - I feel like a goof when I don't catch up to any of them and so maybe it is easier to keep them offline.

The least I could really do is see if I can put one or maybe a couple things I kind of want to do for the current year - there might have been a pre-pandemic build up as far as my personal collections where it served as my collecting centerpiece regardless of the rest of my interests.

With my PCs, I've been content to let them sit where they are kind of neglected - maybe I feel like there is an idea I've done what I can with them and it's not like I'm going to be keeping up in trying to find new additions.

Goals for 2022 #1 - putting more time into PCs - rounding up loose pick ups from at least the past couple of years, making them official, straightening things out and beefing up my personal collections with 10-15 cards.

Ultimately it might be a case where it's mostly about focusing on what I have and what I haven't accounted for - maybe I'm fine with adding what I'd consider 'complimentary' cards rather than true PC cards, where I've gotten away from thoughts of any serious additions to my PCs.

I'd be happy if I found 1 home run card where there is some stature and value while generally still being attainable for an average collector - but with the funny business that has gone on for the past couple of years, that ship may have sailed for good.

Goals for 2022 #2 - putting more time into A-Z singles collections - rounding up loose pick ups from at least the past couple of years, making them official, straightening things out and beefing up my A-Z singles material with 20-25 cards, where the collection serves as the pipeline for my next PC cards.

I don't know if I ever was able to revamp my A-Z singles collections, even before the pandemic - I just had these random mix of cards that may or may not have some value, but the biggest aspect is the idea I'm a collector for better or for worse, where maybe I sit on things rather than looking to flip.

Maybe I have to keep track of things better - that might mean making sure in addition to having a better idea of cards that may go into my personal collections, there is a better idea of cards that I might be able to sell off when I need to.

A look into my collecting goals for 2021

Like everyone else it seems, I have a yearly set of collecting goals, but maybe it gets too long winded to fully break down on a blog - I feel like a goof when I don't catch up to any of them and so maybe it is easier to keep them offline.

One thing I'd like to keep up on is picking up a year's worth of random cards [1/1/21] - I don't know if there is a distinction to be made, but while this goal was meant to be for the quirkier, off-the-wall or esoteric, it looks like it is for any number of finds for my various; out of my expected pickups, I expect to count out one card / set per month as highlights.

Maybe a theme is to pick up cards the kid in me would be proud of - I may not be able to live in the past, but see what cards can I pick up that the beginning collector me would just get a kick out or have a laugh at.

Keepers that have me irrationally animated - may not be definitive by any stretch, but certainly YOLO cards, Dime Time buys where my collection feels just a bit more rounded because I have these cards in-hand.

Dumb 'YOLO' cards - something like the Keith Comstock crotch card [have it] or the Billy Ripken FF card [got it] or the Mark Jackson Menendez card [got it]; something infamous [within reason].

Binder material cards - something shiny, something that pops, even though it cards that may not are not particularly valuable or sought after, just more decade stars fodder that catch my eye.

Other people's interests - sometimes picking up cards off someone’s else’s preferences or narrative can be interesting.

Topps Now / Topps on-demand - I got on benders 2 or 3 years where I would purchase Topps Now singles; they may have been ‘too easy’ impulse purchase then, though hardly the definitive cards of a particular player, so I've stayed away.

Holes to fill - traditional rookie cards - why do I feel like I’ve got to get some of these cards when they are from the junk wax era / junk years?

Maybe it’s because it’s a little throwback, tribute, shout out to something I think I was familiar with, even superficially - 1988 Roberto Alomar and Craig Biggio rookies, Canadian versions of junk wax era rookies [Maddux, Bonds], etc.

Personal, curated sets - I would like to have a micro-mini showcase of random cards that are listed as part of my Top 50 fun PC.

For 2021 onward, this might be my Wanted 100 / cheap-azz keepers mash-up - where the plan is to used my Wanted 100 to help build up a personally curated cheap-azz keepers collection of cards.

Maybe the possibilities are endless, but considering the ‘established spots’ in my card collection set-up already - do I really need to make more ‘cutesy’ subsets that are supposed to highlight cards, but end up redundant?

A look back into a 2020 collecting goal

Like everyone else it seems, I have a yearly set of collecting goals, but maybe it gets too long winded to fully break down on a blog - I feel like a goof when I don't catch up to any of them and so maybe it is easier to keep them offline.

Looking at my generic goals I'd written for 2020, stuff that made sense at the beginning of the year - doesn't end up ringing quite as true, like trying to add some high-brow cards for my personal collections, notably old-school / vintage rookie cards of selected Hall of Famers for example.

The ongoing pandemic makes me skittish about throwing money into something that only sounds good on paper - when values have supposedly been artificially pumped up across the board, I find myself priced out in general.

Maybe I've shifted to lower-end interests in my collections, whether talking about strictly baseball cards or anything to do with autographs - one of the listed goals I had for 2020 to see if I can pick up 10-15 autographs of one-time Angels players.

I was able to ramp things up and 82 new autographs for my collection, though I have to officially list them - to make sure they are physically in my collection or otherwise accounted for.

Maybe it’s ‘easier’ to have a looser goal where I can cobble things together where I’m not restricted by specifics or standards - being able to add a number of random autograph cards featuring rank-and-file guys that played for a random big league team may make me more like a hoarder, but it’s fun nonetheless to see what I can nerd out on as far whose random autographs I can find and add.

Trading cards are the easiest to store in any sort of quantity so for most of the ‘rank and file’ names, that what the autographs are on - for 2021, the goal to add more one-time Angels player autographs sticks though I need to dig deeper to see if I can add old-school / vintage player content, get the 'here and now' players, while adding different players as I can through TTM requests and purchases.

A look back into a 2019 collecting goal

Like everyone else it seems, I have a yearly set of collecting goals, but maybe it gets too long winded to fully break down on a blog - I feel like a goof when I don't catch up to any of them and so maybe it is easier to keep them offline.

One of the random goals I had for 2019 was wanting to pick up a year’s worth of random cards i.e. be able to count out one per month - something off-the-wall and maybe offbeat.

Maybe a theme was to pick up cards a 12-year old me would be proud of - I may not be able to live in the past, but see what cards can I pick up that the adolescent me would just get a kick out of.

Not all these cards represent nostalgic 'flash back' pick-ups however - maybe I got away from the idea of some nostalgic, definitive finds, so maybe my list got to be a real jumble.

A look into my collecting goals for 2020

Like everyone else it seems, I have a yearly set of collecting goals, but maybe it gets too long winded to fully break down on a blog - I feel like a goof when I don't catch up to any of them and so maybe it is easier to keep them offline.

On the other hand, building up my mini-collections are my outlet as far as having fun with a card collection - so it's easy for me to dwell on and share the things I want to do with them through a current year without feeling like I'm going on and on.

A.) My goal for 2020 is to have at least 500 new collecting topics cards - same number to shoot for over the last three or four years, but tilt it so I have more control over the cards I bring in.

Roughly count out 100 specific cards towards the 500 cards I’m looking to add for the year - I hope to focus on cards I want to seek out and highlight outright, besides cards that come into my hands by default breaks and/or finds.

Look to pick up 50 either old-school [pre-1980] and/or vintage [pre-1973] cards - I don’t know if can whittle the numbers down further, so they are more realistic to reach, but still remain a challenge. I’d really like more old-timey cards sprinkled in with my newer stuff, but I don't know if I seek out old-school / vintage cards without an outright outlet.

Look to add 25 cards from other sports - trying to get cards from other sports is a wrinkle but always going to have a ‘baseball first’ mentality.

See if I can come up with Top 10-15 list of cards to hunt down and maybe posted on this blog and/or my offline cheat sheet; as I complete one, maybe I'm looking to make another list; aiming to make at least 5-10 lists by the end of the year.

B.) See if I can make sampler pages for my mini-collections that don’t have them - including unofficial collections. IN GOOGLE SHEETS, HIGHLIGHT THE CARDS I'VE USED IN BLUE.

For AA, make one for classifications / groupings - to clarify what it is.

C.) Rejigger designations for bonus babies / star on star cameos - sometimes I have two stars on one card as a 'bonus baby' when I guess it wouldn't necessarily be accurate to imply one is the lesser player even if one or the other didn't end up being a player who was or is on a HOF track.

Bonus babies = star cameos on common players' cards

Star on star cameos = two stars or better captured on one card

D.) Try and complete at least 15-20 bloodlines relationships in a given year [knowing there maybe others along the way] - i.e. find the son, the cousin, the father’s card to go with what I may have in a collection already.

I do think it’s important because I would like to have cards of all related athletes together at the same time just so there is closure - when things already feel like a claptrap, I feel like I’m missing gaping holes in my collection.

As is, it maybe too tedious for me to make sure I have those completed bloodlines relationships and list what I may have added as achievements - but perhaps there is something about being more conscientious, so this goal may stay up for another year.

At the very least, go through my bloodlines Google Sheets file and make a running wantlist of the missing guys I either have and can track down and also the guys I need outright - there might be some obvious haves ‘missing’ that I’ve never added as well as potential ‘adds’ to fill in the gaps.

E.) List out adds that count for achievements in a particular year, permanently put away cards I’ve already listed [between adds and loose cards I already have] on a regular basis - at times, space gets impacted, so I need to see where I need to account for new storage options as needed.

Though this is what I do to keep up for myself, not some random goal to achieve - but maybe sometimes I neglect the basics.

F.) PEDs mini-collection - streamline implicated tab / comments [maybe a little redundant; what is the implicated tab listing and what is the information listed in the comments tab]?

G.) Research and development - the goal here is to cultivate lists of specific names and cards to seek out [either new 'adds' or old 'haves'] on my cheat sheet; at the end of the year, add listings to wantlist.

Maybe this is for my cheat sheet, but does it make much more sense to list out specific players / cards straight to a wantlist [?] - I think my cheat sheet is designed where I should add cards to the file 'on the go,' as opposed to a more formal list. Maybe there needs to be some redundancy so things don't exactly fade.

List out at least 20-30 old-school and/or vintage cards - do the research to see if there is a run of assorted cards I can pick up [for at least 4-5 six mini-collections].

List out at least 20-30 subjects’ cards for topics that go on and on - nations, bloodlines, local guys, infamous, PEDs.

List out at least 20-30 cards from seemingly unrepresented topics - broken bat shots, interesting backs, retro uniforms, inking it up, cult baseball players / feats, beyond the glory and uncorrected errors.

Go through Baseball-Reference.com’s player biographical information pages for various information on players from a particular nation - click through the sortable column headers to see the leaders in various categories [batting average, home runs, RBIs, games played, All-Star selections, etc] and check if I can list a run of names to add i.e. whether or not I have cards I can use already or need ones to seek out.

2019 collecting topics subsets count Pt. II

I thought I could count the updated number for all my mini-collections in an hour or less, but I spent three hours trying to count out my awesome action cards - out of curiosity I was trying to see if my totals matched and they sort of didn’t.

Maybe due to some ‘minor errors,’ awesome action classifications / groupings count wasn’t matching up - when things get ‘mathy’ I start to get in trouble but maybe it is a good thing to check my work.

A one post 2017 recap - my regional PCs

I have a yearly set of collecting goals I've kept offline since I think it gets too long winded to fully go through on a blog - one of the goals I wanted to focus on was this reboot of my Angels collection.

A.) Put together a list of Top 31-50 PC cards of my Angels collection in my Top 50 common PC - I wanted to see if things could come together as far as having a group of PC cards that I could add to in various ways.

#32 Group Mike Trout
#33 Group Tim Salmon
#34 Group Garret Anderson
#35 Group Torii Hunter
#36 Group Vladimir Guerrero

#37 Group Angels PSA sampler run [1961-1980]
#40 Group Troy Glaus group
#41 Group Jered Weaver
#42 Group Garrett Richards
#43 Group Kole Calhoun
#48 Group graded rookie cards

FYI, a group collection is basically a way to put together cards [of one player and/or one card type] as one ranking in my personal collection - I was able to put together a bunch of PC cards together, now I can kind of build on what I’ve listed, tweak rankings, etc.

B.) Build up an A-Z singles collection for the majority of my cards - listed in a database, sleeved and stored in a box.

  • My main A-Z singles collection will consist of miscellaneous team related cards I end up with - while a separate A-Z singles collection will be for selected players and notable cards.
  • In a given year, I'd like to pick up 10-15 first-year Angel certified autographs, corresponding parallels or other parallel cards to put in my A-Z singles collection - I need to look at upcoming product checklists and consider players that are listed as Angels.
This is a work in progress, where no tangible set-up is put together as I try to figure out what exactly goes into my A-Z singles collections - the distinction between having an A-Z collection that is more of an archive, a catch all for irrelevant and cumbersome slabbed cards of one-time Angels prospects and an A-Z collection that is more refined for selected notable players and notable cards.

Building up the A-Z singles collection with first-year certified autographs, corresponding parallels or others parallel cards - is something I've 'dabbled in' at best and always a work in progress.

C.) Account for loose Angels cards - my goal is to have binders of random Angels cards as 'jukeboxes' of sorts; cards that go into this collection should be listed in a database [except for my binder stars cards].

  • Maintain a collection of ‘binder stars,’ featuring selected players like - Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, Nolan Ryan, Rod Carew, Reggie Jackson, Vladimir Guerrero, Tim Salmon, Torii Hunter, Garret Anderson, Jered Weaver, Jim Edmonds, Garrett Richards, Kole Calhoun, etc.
  • Continue to work on my frankenset, maybe a frankenset update [finding cards #'d 500 and up], an Opening Day lineup set - any displays in binders will have to wait depending on whether I’m close or have completed a particular project.
  • Timeline - 2015 - Frankenset, 2016 - Frankenset update [500+; pull cards aside, officially start when finished with original Frankenset], Angels Opening Day lineups and 'shoebox collection,' which should be the odds and ends left over, 2017 - PC, A-Z collection ‘revamp,’ binder stars and inserts.

What does my goal to have binders of random Angels cards as 'jukeboxes' of sorts mean [?] - I think it means my frankenset / Opening Day lineup as opposed to just loose cards from my team boxes.

Binder stars are a work in progress - I don’t know how to account for guys who’ve been bigger stars for other teams - maybe leave them as is as binder stars or perhaps only have their Angels cards displayed; guys who were primarily [home grown] Angels who starred for a significant number of years for the team maybe whose cards I’d include.

It's kind of sad, but after starting it several years ago, my frankenset seems pretty much in mothballs [the cards are still intact, sleeved and boxes, but I haven't added to it] - a frankenset update is still floating out there [though more as an unofficial thing] and an Opening Day lineup collection is a work in progress.

D.) All-time Angels autograph collection - see if I can count out about 200 different autographs and list them in a Google Sheets file.

  • Scrounge around for random autographs I might have - account for non-card autographs.
  • Use a wantlist to list any names I need - not the collection of random cards for guys who played for the team at one point; the ‘physical collection’ is just a snapshot of players I still need.
  • Add new ones as I can [certified, maybe uncertified and occasional in-person] - trading cards are the easiest to store in any sort of quantity so for most of the ‘rank and file’ names, that what the autographs are on.
  • I’m not going to get them all so maybe settle on a number goal [200] - focus on picking up team Hall of Famers, actual Hall of Famers, stat leaders, award winners, postseason teams, starting lineups, etc.
I think I’ve been able to count out about 200 different autographs - but the work listing out those 200 different is something I haven’t fully committed at different times of the year.

2015 trading card collecting goals recap

I kept my 2015 trading card collecting goals offline though here they are and my comments after the fact - through the summer of last year, I was pretty much content to neglect my interests in strictly trading cards wane as I other things in-hand to preoccupy myself with.

However when times were uncertain and I was kind of feeling aimless about collecting anything - I needed to re-focus my energy on cards as a hobby to care about again.

My assorted goals generally reflected my interests over the last several years - but I think it was only in the last three months of 2015, there may have been an effort to put life back into collecting just the cards for themselves.

1.) Reboot my Angels collection [12/29/14]
A.) I'd like to put together a list of Top 30 PC cards in my Angels collection - by the end of the year, I want a collection of cards to showcase i.e. a wrinkle is while these cards should be centerpieces to my regional collection, value isn't going to be the focal point, but having a list and a physical grouping of cards to work from.
B.) Account for an A-Z singles collection - list in a database and have a physical place to store the cards in.
C.) Account for an insert collection of Angels - basically list cards in a database and be able to put away in binders.
D.) Account for loose Angels cards - my goal is to have a binder of random Angels cards as a 'jukebox' of sorts; cards that go into this collection should be listed in a database.
A work in progress, I want something ‘regional,’ though I might want to just wean myself off being hard up for a team.

Having an Angels ‘Top 30 PC’ seems a little hazy...maybe the 2016 goal will be to build up my A-Z collection first, then hope to identify cards that make up a more definitive PC.

With regards to inserts, try to prune out and separate though actually listing and putting them away seems a little more tedious.

I’m not a completist, so with my loose Angels cards, I ended up starting an Angels frankenset; I feel good I’ve done something with my random Angels cards as a ‘jukebox’ of sorts; next year maybe I’m for completion of the first 500, set myself up for an ‘update’ set past 500 and as a new project, maybe work on Opening Day lineup collections  - 12/21/15.

2.) Reboot my A-Z singles collection [12/29/14]
A.) Start looking to pick up after loose cards to see if there is anything I can put together - what I can weed out such as rookie cards, certified autograph cards and other inserts that are 'dated.'
B.) I want to store various singles in top loaders in a box, list in a database and file away - organized mostly by player in 'ABC' order and then possibly by card type i.e. basic rookie cards, parallels and certified autograph cards.
EXAMPLES
* Any card I picked up as a single and paid over $10 or any notable pulls
* Rookie cards and rookie year parallels - I want to put together a 'default collection' but find the MLBPA Rookie Logo cards to be junky, so I don't know if I really count most as good enough to be 'A-Z singles' worthy cards.
* Any notable parallels / inserts - numbered, certified autographed, game-used material / patch cards
* Notable oddballs like promos, minor league cards, et al
A work in progress, it hasn’t really come together where I’ve gathered cards up, listed on a Google Sheets file and stored away.
A goal would be to have a working A-Z singles collection - 12/21/15.
3.) Personal collection cards [12/29/14]
A.) Maybe find a better physical place to store my various PC collections - use boxes I've bought.
B.) Continue to add to my various PC collections - of course, I want something modern, blinged out, but also I'm not looking to bust a budget.
My Top 30 PC cards should feature my most prominent 'value' cards - I want to say this collection will be the easiest to sell off even though the values may fluctuate over time.
My Top 30 alternate PC cards - maybe a collection of cards that maybe an extension of my Top 30 PC.
My Top 50 common PC cards - a collection consisting more of 'rank and file' keepers with some 'gems' I may have not ranked among the first two collections listed.
Top 50 fun PC - maybe the idea of a 'fun' PC becomes a little absurd when the state of my 'serious' PC collections are just a little thin all around.
A work in progress, it hasn’t really come together where I’ve gathered cards up, listed on a Google Sheets file and stored away.
The thing with this is realigning the collection physically and being able to add a few cards when I can - 12/21/15.
4.) Inserts [3/29/15]
A.) List all insert pulls in my insert database - sleeve the cards and put them away by team [INSTEAD OF PUTTING RANDOM CARDS IN A BINDER, MAYBE I SHOULD JUST LIST THEM, PUT THEM INTO SLEEVES AND BOX THEM UP; MAYBE EASIER TO PULL AS TRADE BAIT].
B.) Regional - make space for assorted Angels inserts [to be sorted by prominent players and random players].
My inserts collection is dormant though it’s basically upkeep such as listing cards I’ve picked up and finding something to do with the collection.
With my assorted Angels inserts, I’m probably going to make it so cards at my discretion will be used for my Opening Day project and/or frankenset - 12/21/15.
5.) Collecting topics [1/5/14] - maybe not so subtly, I kind of what to make these cards the focus on my sports card collections.
A.) My goal for 2015 is to have at least 500 new collecting topics cards with 250 either old-school [pre-1980] and/or vintage [pre-1973] cards - I feel like the older Topps cards do not have have as much personality, so it's harder to find cards with sort of unique images as opposed to cards I can possibly add to topics that go on and on i.e. nations, bloodlines, local guys, et al; it's easier to find cards from the past couple of years with unique images that makes an otherwise common card 'pop.'
TAG any cards with either old-school [pre-1980] and/or vintage [pre-1973] on the comments field - to keep track of achievements with old cards.
I counted out 1258 adds for 2015 with 3 old-school adds and 28 vintage adds, so I met goal of adding 500 new collecting topics cards, though fell short of the 250 old-school/vintage adds - 12/21/15.
B.) I'd like to have more cards for collecting topics that seem to be underrepresented - so maybe try harder to find and add at least 20-30 cards to certain topics i.e. broken bat shots, interesting backs, retro uniforms, inking it up, cult baseball players / feats, beyond the glory and uncorrected errors.
I guess the best way to figure this out is to look for the totals listed per each topic - then for the mini-collection that seem to have less, focus on checking up on the month 'adds' to see if I have added 20-30 cards.
IT doesn’t happen where I really end up doing research to seek to list out a run of 20-30 specific cards to add to any particular topic and then seek them out - most of the time, I end up with cards from assorted breaks as opposed to picking them up as singles.
Maybe in addition to whatever is pulled, I can do a better job of having a run of 20-30 specific cards to seek out - especially for the underrepresented mini-collections - 12/21/15.
C.) Find and list 20-25 new subjects for topics that go on and on - nations, bloodlines, local guys, infamous, PEDs.
I guess the best way is to figure this out is to sort using filter by monthy 'adds' for these five collecting topics - I maybe missing more mini-collections that apply, but at the very least, look for the following as far as new subjects.
D.) For ‘bloodlines,’ try and complete at least ‘10-15’ relationships in a given year [knowing there maybe others along the way] - i.e. find the son, the cousin, the father’s card to go with what I may have in a collection already.
Maybe do a post on the blog to showcase relationship - as well as the cards in-hand.
E.) Scour loose signed cards and list at least 100 as adds to my 'collecting topics' tree - it maybe the easiest way to find use for signed in-person cards that I get signed since they all just lay around loose after.
Maybe anything I add to a mini-collection can be added as a 'new card,' since it technically is new element - not just any old card.
I haven’t done this because it seems like the cards I’m getting signed are running away from me as opposed to ending up in one stack. Many of the cards I might be using are of rank-and-file players and maybe I should embrace the idea some of the signed cards are going into mini-collections as opposed to really just ‘hanging out’ loose somewhere - 12/21/15.
F.) Remove star on star cards from bonus babies mini-collection -
I haven’t thought about this but the idea is to have cards for my star-on-star mini-collection, especially if the actual player listed in the card is as good as the star making a cameo as opposed to being a scrub - 12/21/15.
6.) Finish my Topps team runs and my Topps sampler runs from 1978 to 2015 [1/5/14] - it's not really something I've been seriously working on, but I'd like to knock out a bunch of years and complete at least a couple of MLB teams.
A.) I made a Google Sheets file so I can list all cards I have in my collection - maybe last opportunity to tweak a card used for a particular year.
B.) Complete at least one division in 2015 - get to within about needing only 10-15 cards per each MLB team.
This is in progress and while the project was once left dormant, I put some life into it by finally seeing what cards I was still missing and making use of the Google Sheets file I created.
As for specific goals in 2016, maybe have a more concrete list of cards to chase after - get the years 1978-85 done for all the applicable teams and get 10-15 teams entirely done - 12/21/15.
7.) Reboot my award winners [MVP, Cy Young and Rookie of the Year] collection [12/29/14] - it's not really something I've been seriously working on, but get a new binder for the cards, make sure I at least have a card for each award winner from the last three or four years covered, make sure I have appropriate cards for certain players and see where I can add a new card to fill a hole.
I’m pretty proud of myself I was actually breathe new life into this project, though it wasn’t really towards the end of the year.
The project has been rebooted and hopefully I can nail down some more missing names as well as add some wrinkles i.e. relic/autograph cards along the way - 12/21/15.
8.) Find semi-permanent storage solutions [1/5/14] - have a system in place where I’m not juggling around loose cards, but have storage answers that are viable and maintainable.
A.) If at all possible, look to 'double up' on the protection - don't leave things out in the open.
B.) Don't leave cards loose - have a plan to put away every card appropriately.
A work in progress, may not be a goal for 2016, but something I need to remind myself of - there is a system in place, I just have to lean on it and maybe refine the way I go about maintaining upkeep - 12/22/15
9.) Cardboard acquisitions [1/5/15]
A.) I'd like to be able to pick up 20-25 assorted singles - such as rookie cards, certified autograph cards and other inserts that maybe interesting. Are there any certified autographs I need as far as an impulse pick up? Probably not and most notable singles may come from assorted pack / blaster / box breaks, than seeking out specific cards.
Maybe I could focus on regional singles - it doesn't have to be something that maybe worth so much.

If I take a look through my assorted buys, I can probably put a listing together of 20-25 cards though they would be mostly ‘odds and ends’ as opposed to cards that really stand out.
This may not be a goal for next year, but something I need to remind myself of as sort a guideline to yearly purchases - 12/31/15
B.) Pick up 15-20 first-year autograph cards - I want some nice cards as just a card collector, but it doesn't seem realistic to go after prospect cards that are already signed when I'm trying to go for the players' autographs in-person.
I’m not a prospector, so this idea didn’t quite get off the ground - it may not be a goal for next year, but something I need to remind myself of as sort my guideline - 12/22/15
C.) I'd like to pick up at least 10-15 Angels prospect cards - who are the Angels Top 10 prospects / who are their top picks and can I get at least one certified autograph card and one certified autograph parallel of each of those players in a particular year.
I was on a ‘mini’ Sean Newcomb and Chris Ellis kick, but those two players got traded to the Atlanta Braves in November and the Angels system seems mostly bleak - 12/22/15
F.) I'd like to pick up a random card per month - something off-the-wall and completely random.

If I count out cards I’ve bought in 2015, I can probably cobble up a list of cards to cover each month - I will probably make the 2016 goal to have enough cards to represent the 12 months of the year as opposed to actually trying to look for a card [that fits whatever itch I need to scratch] and pick up a card each month - 1/1/16
G.) I'd like to bust four or five 'guilt free' hobby boxes - try not to buy into hype when boxes first come out but pull the trigger on a couple.
I’m not sure if this one works at all because I try to pick up hand-collated sets most of the time - if I could do four or five, then I've completed this goal.
I still like the idea of having a full box to bust though I mostly have to pick my spots - I stuck to mostly random blaster box purchases because it made more sense to get hand-collated sets as opposed to full hobby boxes [if I’m mostly looking for cards as opposed to pulls].

For pulls, maybe I’d rather be spent online to get random singles - as opposed to busting boxes, which seem so impulsive.
This may not be a goal for next year, but something I need to remind myself of as sort my guideline - 12/31/15
